Research Fellow, China Cluster,
Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI)
He specialises in nature-society synthesis in the areas of water resources, human dimensions of environmental change, natural disasters in developing countries, and applications of Geographic Information System (GIS). Over the years, his research has expanded to include environmental impact assessment, regional environmental planning, risk analysis and hazard management. More recently, he has been interested in the dynamic nature of human-environmental vulnerability, resilience, adaptability, and its assessment in the context of land use/cover change, disaster risk reduction, and more generally, sustainable development.
Prior to joining SEI, he was a Research Programmer for Idrisi GIS at the Clark Labs, Clark University, US (1997-2001), and he was an Assistant Professor at the School of Environment, Beijing Normal University, China (1988-1993).
